2024-25 Women’s Tennis Season Recap
The 2024-25 season marked a return to the national semifinals for the Emory University women’s tennis team as the Eagles advanced to the Final Four for the second time in three seasons under Head Coach Bridget Disher and for the 23rd time in program history.
Emory collected 18 wins – the most in a season since 2018-19 – finishing at 18-6 overall and added another runner-up performance at the University Athletic Association after reaching the championship match for the 37th consecutive time.
Four different players earned ITA All-America status during the season, highlighted by the play of junior Emily Kantrovitz. She turned in a dominating season as a fixture at the top of the lineup – posting a singles record of 29-6 with her 29 victories ranking seventh all-time in a single season in program history. Kantrovitz’s play elevated her to the No. 1 ranked singles player in Division III where she spent most of the spring season in the rankings. She became the 12th individual to bring home UAA MVP honors and advanced to the singles national semifinals of the NCAA Individual Championships in May. In the fall, Kantrovitz captured her second straight ITA South regional singles title, advancing the Division III semifinals of the ITA Cup and teamed with Dakota Fordham to reach the ITA Cup championship match in doubles.
The Eagles’ singles lineup saw five players win 16 or more matches on the season with junior Iris Berman also reaching the 20-win mark. Berman won her final 10 decisions as she finished 15-3 in dual matches and was 20-5 on the season. Her doubles counterpart, Izzy Antanavicius, held down the No. 2 spot in the order and ended the year with 18 wins. In the fall, Antanavicius reached the championship match of the ITA South singles draw where she squared off against Kantrovitz and advanced to the quarterfinals of the ITA Cup. In the spring, Izzy won eight matches and concluded her season with a run to the national quarterfinals at the NCAA Championships which included a take down of the draw’s No. 1 overall seed in the Round of 16.
Antanvicius and Berman formed a dynamic tandem to headline the play of Emory’s doubles unit. The pair spent most of the spring ranked as one of the nation’s top doubles duos and finished with a team-leading 22 wins as they went 22-7. Antanavicius and Berman started the spring with 12 straight wins and representing the Eagles at the NCAA Individual Championships where they advanced to the quarterfinals.
The spring season saw the Eagles rack up 12 wins against nationally ranked top 25 programs as well as third place finish at the ITA Indoor National Championships in Memphis, Tennessee in early March.
Following a runner-up finish at the UAA Championships, the Eagles headed to Lexington, Virginia for the opening rounds of the NCAA tournament. Emory did not drop a point in its first two matches against NC Wesleyan and Washington & Lee to advance to the final site for the 17th consecutive season. The Eagles then defeated Bowdoin in the quarterfinals, 4-1, with Kantrovitz earning the clinching point. Emory’s run to the finals though was upended the next day as Pomona-Pitzer knocked off the Eagles, 4-1.
In addition to several Eagles garnering national and conference attention for their play on the courts during the season, members of the team also were well-represented for their efforts in the classroom. Seven players were chosen as ITA Scholar-Athletes while Kantrovitz, Berman and Eliza McPherron were selected as Academic All-Americans by the College Sports Communicators organization with Kantrovitz earning a First Team nod.
