Indian Women’s Hockey Team Set to Begin Asia Cup 2025 Journey Against Thailand
The Indian Women’s Hockey Team is ready to take center stage as they begin their campaign at the Women’s Asia Cup 2025 with a face-off against Thailand on September 5th. The much-awaited tournament will take place in Hangzhou, China, from September 5–14, and will be an important qualifying event for the 2026 Women’s FIH Hockey World Cup.

India is in Pool B with defending champions Japan, Thailand, and Singapore. Pool A has host nation China, Korea, Malaysia, and Chinese Taipei. India, which won Bronze in the last edition, now has their sights set on Gold and reclaiming the title they last won in 2017.
Captain Salima Tete, known for her leadership and grit, shared her thoughts:
“We’re excited to kick off our Asia Cup journey. Playing against Japan in the group stage will be a test of our strategy and strength right from the beginning. Our team is focused, and every match will be a step toward our goal—lifting the trophy and securing our place at the 2026 World Cup.”
Vice Captain Navneet Kaur added:
“This tournament brings together Asia’s best, and we’re embracing the challenge. We’ve trained hard, and it’s time to translate that effort onto the field. Facing Japan early will push us to bring out our A-game. Our team spirit is strong, and we’re determined to make India proud.”
A top finish at the Asia Cup not only brings continental glory but also grants direct qualification to the 2026 Women’s FIH World Cup—adding extra motivation to the squad’s campaign.

The tournament format has two teams from each pool advancing to the Super 4s to battle for the right to play in the Final. The remainder of the teams will contest for position through classification matches for retention and ranking.
