For higher-income women, traveling to another state for an abortion would be more an inconvenience than a major barrier.
But substantial evidence shows that’s not the case for low-income women, who are more likely to struggle with transportation, housing, child care or missed work.
Studies show closing a nearby abortion clinic and making women travel 250 miles or more to go to another clinic decreases the chances of obtaining a legal abortion by more than 40 percent.
