India batting coach Hrishikesh Kanitkar played down the magnitude of India’s duel with Pakistan on the eve of the match. He said that his team is looking forward to the challenge.
“When you are growing up you want to play in World Cups and play against strong teams and arch-rivals. These are all things you look forward to doing. Most of our team have played against Pakistan in the past, so they know what to expect and what the atmosphere is like,” Kanitkar said.
India will be without its star opener Smriti Mandhana as she has been ruled out with a finger injury. Kanitkar added that Mandhana will be available for India’s second fixture.
“Smriti has a finger injury and is still recovery, so she won’t play most-likely. It’s not a fracture and we’re hopeful she will be available from the second game onwards,” said Kanitkar.
