Maharashtra Tourism Offers 50% Discount For Women At MTDC Resorts To Celebrate Women’s Day
International Women’s Day is just round the corner. To celebrate the day, Maharashtra Tourism has introduced a move to promote gender-inclusive tourism. The Maharashtra Tourism Development Corporation (MTDC) has introduced a 50% discount for women staying at its resorts across the state from March 1 to 8.
Tourism Minister Shambhuraj Desai launched the scheme in Mumbai. During the launch, he also highlighted the success of the initiative last year as more than 1,500 women availed of the benefit. He said, “The ‘Aai’ policy reflects our government’s commitment to creating safe and enjoyable tourism experiences for women. After the overwhelming response last year, we decided to extend the initiative this year as well.”
Bookings will open on March 1 through MTDC’s official website, www.mtdc.co. This initiative not only offers women an opportunity to discover the scenic beauty of Maharashtra but also highlights the government’s commitment to making travel more accessible and enjoyable for women.
As per Desai, this initiative aligns with the broader vision of the BJP-led Mahayuti government in Maharashtra to empower women through targeted policies. He also pointed to the success of the ‘Ladki Bahin Yojana’, which played a key role in the alliance’s electoral victory last year.
Atul Patne, Principal Secretary of the Tourism Department, stressed that the ‘Aai’ policy isn’t just about discounts, but about fostering a safe and inclusive environment for women in tourism. “Creating secure spaces for women and offering them opportunities in the tourism sector is a key focus under the ‘Aai’ policy,” he noted.
But the best part is that the offer will be available not just during International Women’s Day week but also on 22 other days throughout the year, making a total of 30 discounted days. The specific dates for these discounts will be announced on MTDC’s official website. The initiative is part of the state’s ‘Aai’ women-centric tourism policy. It is designed to encourage safe, accessible travel for women and increase their participation in the tourism sector.
With such initiatives, the government of Maharashtra plans to make the country more safe and accessible for women travellers and solo women travellers.
