Miss World competition returns to India after 27 years

This year, contestants will participate from over 130 countries. They will gather in India to showcase their unique talent, intelligence, and compassion. Reita Faria was the first Indian to win Miss World in 1996. The then 23-year-old medical student from Bombay also became the first Asian to win the beauty pageant. In an interview with The Indian Express, Reita Faria had said, “The Indian beauty pageant industry was rather amateurish and not well organised at all.” (Express Photo)
India’s Manushi Chhillar won the Miss World in 2017 which was held in China and ended the 17 years of drought for India at the international beauty pageant. Priyanka Chopra was the last winner from India in 2000, before Manushi. (Facebook/Miss World)
