Modern Indian Woman And Her Daily Struggles
Indian women are bound by rules and regulations from time immemorial.
Women have to lead a conscious life with everyone eyeballing their existence.
From the 21st century, modern Indian women have grown to become stronger and independent but they are still in the clutches of the norms of society.
Even now, when women have the freedom to smoke quietly, they are labelled “Non-sanskari”, if their families get to know. She can wear whatever she wants but then she’s called an “attention seeker”, “vulgar” or is slut-shamed. Women today can work and have the privilege to party with their friends, but also feel insecure and unsafe coming back home alone, late at night.
Modern Indian women deal with these mundane dilemmas every single day of their lives where they are confused as to what is accepted by the society. Women are held under a microscope on a daily basis. They are taught how to eat, dress, talk, walk, sit etc just so that she is “appropriate” enough to get married.
With technological and economic advancements, the women workforce is reaching greater heights. However, it’s still very difficult for women to make their place in the male-dominated market. They have to face job harassment, less pay and lack of opportunities. Even today, women don’t have the liberty to choose their own life partners and often have to marry the boy their parents arrange for them. Young women are always asked questions about marriage and children. And how career is not supposed to be their priority. So, even in the 21st century and in the era of modernisation, women still lead a complex life. It is a never-ending fight for them and they constantly have to keep proving themselves to be a part of the society. The fight for validation and respect is only one aspect of the problem.
The problem at large is way more scary and has the capability to stagnate the growth in our country.
