You might’ve been around last year when our editors shared our obsession with the most flattering tank top ever made, *the* Target tank. In case you missed it, it’s a basic ribbed tank top by the Target brand A New Day that is basically the most essential of all wardrobe essentials. Now, a little over a year later (and with about eight of those tank tops in my dresser), I am happy to report that we have found the winter version of the tank: the Target hoodie.
I actually picked up my first one of these hoodies last winter, but didn’t truly realize how great they are until I added a few new colors to my collection. And when Ashley, our Branded Content Editor, appeared on Instagram Stories wearing the tan version, both our readers and the rest of our team went absolutely wild for it.
You might be thinking, what’s so special about a basic hoodie? Well, here’s the thing: this hoodie just happens to be the perfect hoodie. The material is incredibly soft on the inside, and it is thick and luxe-feeling enough that it rivals the high-end (and $100+) basics you can find at Aritzia and Lululemon—but this one is only $20. And it comes in regular and plus sizes!
Why we’re obsessed…
This hoodie can be dressed down with leggings and sneakers, worn for WFH or lounging at home with the matching joggers (yep, you heard that right) and slippers, or even dressed up with relaxed-fit jeans and a chic jacket. This is the kind of hoodie that will have you feeling like a model-off-duty, rather than someone who just got out of high school gym class.
Over the last year or so, we’ve seen the comeback of the hoodie in a big way. Crewnecks seemed to have us on lock for years, but as the pandemic has really decided that it’s here to stay for a while, people seem to be craving the sense of security that a hoodie can offer.
One of the best parts about this hoodie is the fact that it can be part of a matching sweat set. There really is just something about a good set that can make you feel instantly put-together and chic, especially during the long winter days that are probably mostly spent at home. This collection not only has a pair of joggers, but a pair of sweat shorts as well—which are perfect for those of you who are lucky enough to live in a warmer winter climate.
It’s all in the details…
Outside of its comfort and quality, this hoodie is also chic as hell. Like we’ve talked about with the A New Day tank before it, Target really knows its stuff when it comes to designing pieces with a super flattering fit. The layered neckline, stitching and ribbed details, and general cut of it really elevate this hoodie to another level. Plus, it comes in a ton of on-trend colors… you might just find yourself ordering more than one than one.
I did size up one for a slightly more oversized fit, but it really depends on how you want your hoodies and sweatshirts to fit. If you like a classic fit, you’d most likely be safe with your normal size (most reviewers say it is true to size), but if you like a little bit of extra room, we’d recommend sizing up.

As much as we’re all obsessed with the hoodie, I really do love the crewneck (almost) as much. It’s the exact same—from the material to the fit to the details—just without a hood. Plus, it comes in 16 (!!) colors and regular and plus sizes.
