Historic Medal For Priyanka, 1st Indian Woman To Win Silver in 10km Walk
At the ongoing Commonwealth Games 2022 in Birmingham on Saturday, Indian athlete Priyanka Goswami won the nation’s silver medal in 10,000 m race walk final and created history. This is her personal best time, of 43:38.00. This made Priyanka the first Indian woman to win a medal in racewalking. In addition, she becomes just the second racewalker to win a medal at the CWG. Prior to her, Harminder Singh had won a bronze medal in the 20 m racewalk at the 2019 games.
To celebrate her participation in representing her country she posted a picture of herself carrying the Indian flag on Instagram along with the caption that read “I feel very proud to represent India at the Commonwealth Games 2022 in Birmingham, UK. I’ll give my best for my Country,” which she completely delivered on, as every Indian celebrates her victory today.
“Congratulations to our national racewalking champion Priyanka Goswami on winning the highly coveted Silver medal,” tweeted Prime Minister, Narendra Modi. He added that with this medal, she has inspired many young Indians to participate in this sport. And hopes she continues to reach new heights of success in the future, ending with the #Cheer4India
Bhawna Jat, the second Indian to compete, finished eighth and last with a personal best time of 47:14.13.
