CWG: Indian Women’s Cricket Team Is One Win Away From Winning Gold
The Indian women’s cricket team advanced to the finals of the Commonwealth Games 2022 after defeating the home team by four runs. England required 13 runs in the last over, and India’s Sneh Rana performed admirably by restricting the players from England. However, the game’s turning point occurred in the eighteenth over, when the captain of the English team Natalie Sciver was run out. The asking rate was almost reachable until she came to the crease.
Indian batter Smriti Mandhana played brilliantly, scoring 50 runs in just 23 balls, the fastest by an Indian hitter in women’s cricket. Smriti and Shafali Varma got India off to a great start and kept it going. With Smriti out in the ninth over after scoring 61 off 32 balls with eight boundaries and three sixes, Jemimah Rodrigues came in with a rapid cameo, smashing seven fours in 31 balls to help India cross the 150-run mark and set a tough total.
England started their innings in a shaky way but they soon maintained a consistent run rate. When the asking rate was high, the Indian bowlers did a brilliant job of having a few dot balls. The death overs were critical, and a few key wickets that fell at the correct time helped India secure the victory.
This is India’s first ever medal in cricket in a multi-sport event and they will now compete for the gold medal tomorrow.
